The Royal Horse Show, Canada’s most iconic equestrian event, is preparing to deliver a noteworthy centennial celebration in its return to Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, Canada, from November 4 to 13, 2022, as part of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
This year’s Royal Horse Show will showcase the very best in horse sport, with CSI5*-W international classes featuring some of the world’s best athletes, as well as more prize money than ever before.
Opening night on Friday, November 4, will set the tone for the 10-day affair with an exciting evening schedule highlighted by the Horseware® Arena Eventing Challenge and the $125,000 Henry Equestrian Canadian Show Jumping Championship. The Eventing Challenge, headlined by two-time Olympic champion Michael Jung of Germany, brings the exhilaration of jumping natural cross-country obstacles to an indoor setting, while the Canadian Show Jumping Championships will keep the crowd on edge with Canada’s top stars going head to head. Champions for both of these classes will be crowned on Saturday, November 5, which also features the All Breed Six Horse Hitch of Mares with Belgians, Clydesdales, and Percherons. Sunday’s program closes out opening weekend with the $15,000 Braeburn Farms Hunter Derby.
Hunters continue to take center stage during the evening program on Tuesday, November 8, with the $25,000 Knightwood Hunter Derby National Championship followed by the Royal Dressage Showcase, sure to dazzle spectators of all ages.
International show jumping competition kicks off on Wednesday, November 9, with the $38,000 McKee Family International Challenge, where audience members will get their first look at this year’s field, full of Olympic and World Championship veterans. The fan-favourite $138,000 Big Ben International Challenge follows on Thursday, November 10.
Friday’s program on November 11 is big in every sense, starting with the Percheron Six Horse Hitch. Then, some of the biggest names in The Royal’s 100-year history will prove that “they still got it” in the Legends of Show Jumping exhibition class. The night culminates in the $75,000 Royal Centennial Cup Speed Challenge.
Daytime competition on Saturday, November 12, is highlighted by the family-friendly $35,000 K9-Equine Challenge, which pairs one international athlete with a President’s Choice SuperDogs in an extraordinary team relay. Nighttime brings the highly anticipated $250,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Toronto to a packed house of more than 7,000 show jumping enthusiasts. Spectators will enjoy an evening that opens with the $12,500 Alfred Rogers Under 25 National Championship Final and the Royal Heavy Horse Team Championship.
The final day of the Royal Horse Show on Sunday, November 13, will conclude the 100th anniversary in style. Spectators can kick their heels up with The Royal Rodeo, featuring returning guest emcee Amber Marshall, plus bull riding, speed events, and trick riding.
As always, The Royal offers numerous hospitality experiences that sell out quickly due to their popularity. The Royal Terrace will be available for VIP and corporate hosting while the Coliseum’s Sky Suites offer stables and groups their own private suites.
