Greek show jumping athlete Ioli Mytilineou claimed the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award on Sunday, March 6, during week eight of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.
Mytilineou accumulated the highest number of points among all female athletes competing in the $37,000 Adequan® WEF Challenge Cup Round 8 on Thursday, March 3, and the $216,000 CSIO4* JTWG Inc. Grand Prix held on Sunday, March 6. Mytilineou and her mount, Levis de Muze, finished with one fence down for four faults in Thursday’s class before jumping double clear to finish runner-up in Sunday’s Grand Prix.
“I am really excited to win this award,” said Mytilineou, 24, of winning her first Leading Lady Rider title. “It’s nice to recognize the female competitors in a sport where both men and women can compete equally. To see the field of female athletes that were jumping in the grand prix and be the best of them is an amazing feeling.
“He is my best friend,” continued Mytilineou of the 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion (Elvis Ter Putte x Tinka’s Boy) owned by Elia Construction SA. “I am obsessed with him, and I talk about him all the time. I’ve had him since he was seven years old, and he is now 11. We have really grown a partnership together. I would do anything for him, and I feel that he would do the same for me. We are looking forward to competing in the two remaining five-star events here in Wellington this year. After that, I am on the Paris Panthers team for the Global Champions League, so I am excited to show him on that tour.”
In recognition of winning the Leading Lady Rider Award, Jolicoeur and her husband, Dr. Stephen Norton, presented Mytilineou with a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, and a gift certificate for a shopping spree at Hunt, Ltd.
A long-time sponsor and dedicated supporter of horse sport at WEF for many years, 2022 marks Jolicoeur’s 12th season presenting the Leading Lady Rider Award. A former competitor herself, Jolicoeur enjoyed a successful international show jumping career before becoming Florida’s number one Douglas Elliman real estate broker.
Throughout WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, given in memory of fellow realtor and horsewoman Dale Lawler, is presented each week to the female athlete who earns the most points in the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series and grand prix events. During the final week of WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Overall Leading Lady Rider Award will be presented to the female rider who accumulates the most points throughout the 13-week circuit.
