Great Britain’s Emily Moffitt secured the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award on Saturday evening, February 27, during week seven of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.
Moffitt accumulated the highest number of points among all female athletes competing in the $75,000 Adequan® WEF Challenge Cup Round 7 on Thursday, February 24, and the $406,000 CSI5* Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix held on Saturday evening, February 26. Moffitt and her mount, Winning Good, had one fence down for four faults in Thursday’s class before earning a sixth place finish on Saturday night under the lights in the International Arena.
“I won this award a few years ago but not recently so to win tonight is really exciting,” said Moffitt, 24, of winning the Leading Lady title. “I think it’s special that the show has this award. It’s amazing to be recognized as a leading lady and I think it’s also really important. Girl power should be more recognized than it is!
“I think my consistency this week is due to the fact that my horse is spectacular,” continued Moffitt of the 13-year-old Dutch Riding Horse gelding (Winningmood x Sir Corland) owned by Poden Farms. “I always say the same thing – Winning Good is just unbelievable. I don’t think I’ll ever get to ride a horse or have the privilege of riding a horse like him ever again in my life. I just feel lucky every time I walk into the ring with him. I almost scratched tonight because I wasn’t feeling well, but I knew he would take care of me. When I walked into the ring and took a deep breath, he did exactly that.”
In recognition of winning the Leading Lady Rider Award, Jolicoeur and her husband, Dr. Stephen Norton, presented Moffitt with a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, and a gift certificate for a shopping spree at Hunt, Ltd.
A long-time sponsor and dedicated supporter of horse sport at WEF for many years, 2022 marks Jolicoeur’s 12th season presenting the Leading Lady Rider Award. A former competitor herself, Jolicoeur enjoyed a successful international show jumping career before becoming Florida’s number one Douglas Elliman real estate broker.
Throughout WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, given in memory of fellow realtor and horsewoman Dale Lawler, is presented each week to the female athlete who earns the most points in the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series and grand prix events. During the final week of WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Overall Leading Lady Rider Award will be presented to the female rider who accumulates the most points throughout the 13-week circuit.
