After a year of dominating the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) National Hunter Derby classes from Florida to New York, Copper Canyon, owned by Adele Einhorn and ridden by Jennifer Jones, won the 2024 high score award in the National Hunter Derby - National Horse Standings for Professionals with $38,775 in prize money. Jones also won the 2024 National Hunter Derby - National Rider Standings for Professionals with $60,825 in prize money, more than $13,000 above the second-place finisher.

Einhorn purchased Copper Canyon, known as “Bailey” in the barn, as a four-year-old. Jones was the first rider to compete with the Zangersheide gelding by Irish Wiskey Z (Darco x Voltaire) out of Fubertha (Nabab de Reve x Burggraaf), a 15-year-old KWPN mare that showed to the five-star jumping level with Belgian Olympian Nicola Philippaerts. They started that summer in the Green Hunter 3’ division, and have developed a special relationship since then, leading to their top national honors.

“Copper Canyon was so consistent all year, and I won mostly with two of my favorite horses, Copper Canyon and Lincoln,” said Jones of her year-end award. “It’s very meaningful for me to win the National Rider Standings. The last thing I can remember as a big accomplishment was being Leading Hunter Rider at the National Horse Show in 2001. It’s been a while since I felt I’d won something as special as this. It means a lot and means a lot to do it with those two horses, for sure.”

“I’m extremely proud of Jenny and Bailey,” said Einhorn. “Jenny’s care for the horse is not just about the ride. The two together have amazing symmetry, and I’ve loved watching the consistent progress they’ve made. I just love this horse. While I haven’t shown him, I do ride him all the time and so have many of my friends and their children. He is such a great horse. I also want to thank Bailey’s other riders during the summer who contributed to his success.”

In 2024, Bailey and Jones competed at the Winter Spectacular Show Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala, where they won two National Hunter Derbies along with third and ninth places. In the final week of the winter circuit, they competed for the first time in the imposing Stadium Arena and placed second in the $75,000 National Hunter Derby.

Bailey went on to show at Saratoga Horse Shows, where he had a top-12 finish with Oakley Clark, second- and third-place finishes with Keirstin Scott, and won National Hunter Derbies with Holly Orlando and Shachine Belle.

Jones took over the ride again in August, where they placed fourth in the $50,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby at HITS-on-the-Hudson VIII in Saugerties, NY, and they returned WEC – Ocala for another third-place finish in November.

In 2025, Bailey and Jones started showing in the Green Hunter 3’6” and are now qualified for the Devon Horse Show. Bailey is also currently leading the 2025 standings for National Hunter Derby - National Horse Professional. They have won two National Hunter Derbies this winter, along with two second places and three fourth places. Bailey stands fourth in National Lifetime Horse Money Won standings as well.

“It’s just amazing what he’s turned into,” said Jones. “He’s always done more than we anticipated. At one point, we thought he would be the best 3’3” horse in the whole world and in these national derbies, and now we have shown him in 3’6” Green Hunters successfully, and he will hopefully get into the Devon Horse Show.

“He just keeps stepping up year after year and getting better and better,” she added. “I really look forward to campaigning him this year, and we have some exciting goals. People that I don’t even know know this horse; he’s a little bit of a celebrity. He looks like a giant pony and then you see him jump and are like, ‘Wow, that’s a really good horse.’ He’s only eight years old this year. Who knows what the future has in store for him?”

Jones was propelled to her professional rider victory primarily by riding Copper Canyon as well as Lincoln, owned by Elle Gibbs, who finished just outside the top 20 in the National Horse Standings. It was a fitting end to a momentous year for Jones, who began a new business venture, Snow Brook LLC, based in Aiken, SC, and Ocala, FL, with her friend Kitty Griswold at the beginning of 2024.

“We put our heads together and thought we would start with five to six horses, and by the time we went to Aiken in May, we already had 15. It’s growing all the time,” said Jones, who also rides for trainers Bob Braswell and Liz Reilly. “My favorite thing to do is buy, produce, and sell horses. Kitty is just a little different than I am. She is good at what I’m not good at, so it works out well. She organizes my day. She’s the planner, and I can focus on riding and training. Kitty points me in the right direction, and off we go.”

Jones will stay in Ocala through May and then base out of White Hollow Farm in Stillwater, NY, for the summer to compete at the Saratoga Horse Shows. “Saratoga might be my favorite place to be,” remarked Jones. “I’m really excited about our plans this year and to see how our business grows.”
